Setback

Hey gang. Suffered a minor setback a couple of days ago - ALL the music on my laptop that I was going to be posting here somehow got erased! Not too sure how that happened. But,I will be shortly going on a move,so that should give time to get all the 45's back on the laptop - what I've already posted, what I haven't posted and what I will be adding. I will start posting again soon - very soon, I hope - so until then, keep jamming, gang.

Badfinger "Day After Day"

ARTIST: BADFINGER

TITLE: DAY AFTER DAY

LABEL: APPLE RECORDS

YEAR: 1971

TRACK LIST:
SIDE 1: DAY AFTER DAY [PRODUCED BY GEORGE HARRISON]
SIDE 2: MONEY [PRODUCED BY TODD RUNDGREN]

Hey all! Welcome to the second installment of the new blog! And this time,we feature a band that had both great fortune AND even worse misfortune. Yes, Ladies and Gentlemen, it is that beloved band Badfinger, with the first single off of their 1972 absolute classic album, "Straight Up", called "Day After Day".
The album has a completed first version, which Apple Records - their label at the time - for some reason rejected, however the band was given another chance to recut the album. George Harrison, whose "This Song" relaunched this blog, produced several selections that were recut - the A side of this weeks's offering being one of them - with the full intention of doing the entire album.
However, at one point, George had to pull out of the sessions to fly to NYC and start putting together "The Concert For Bangla Desh" show, and asked Badfinger to be part of the backing band for the entire show. So, the sessions moved to NYC and Todd Rundgren ("We Gotta Get You A Woman", "Can We Still Be Friends", Hello It's Me") took over production, adding to George's already produced tracks Piano (on this track, played by Leon Russell and overdubbed at Bell Sound Studio, where KISS did the demos for their debut album) and Produced several other tracks (this offering's B Side, "Money", being one of them) in order to get an album out.
The original release was due in 1971, to be a Christmas buying time release, but with the rejection of the first version, was pushed into 1972.
"Straight Up" is considered by many people - not just fans of Badfinger - to be the band's "must own" album, putting it above "No Dice", "Music From The Magic Christian", "Wish You Were Here" and "Ass".
Well, here's the first single off of "Straight Up" for your listening enjoyment.
I have included pictures of both sides of the 45 and the album cover.

Promotional Copy

SIDE 1: THIS SONG [MONO]

SIDE 2: THIS SONG [STEREO]

COMPOSER: G. HARRISON

PUBLISHER: GANGA PUBLISHING B.V.

YEAR OF RELEASE: 1976

YES,FOLKS. THIS IS THE FAMOUS SONG WRITTEN ABOUT THE "MY SWEET LORD" PLAGERISM LAWSUIT. THE JUDGE,ACCORDING TO THE NOTES ON THE PROMOTIONAL SLEEVE,RULED AGAINST MR. HARRISON,BUT ALSO STATED THAT HE HAD DONE SO UNKNOWINGLY. THE THING NOBODY MENTIONS ABOUT THE LAWSUIT IS WHO THE VICTOR WAS: ALLEN B. KLEIN,THE ONE TIME HEAD OF APPLE RECORDS,GEORGE'S FORMER LABEL,WHO JUST HAPPENED TO POSSESS THE PUBLISHING RIGHTS TO "HE'S SO FINE".

THE SONG ITSELF BOTH DIRECTLY AND INDIRECTLY ADDRESSES THE SITUATION ("THIS SONG AIN'T BLACK OR WHITE/AND AS FAR AS I KNOW/DON'T INFRINGE ON ANYONE'S COPYRIGHTS" and "THIS TUNE HAS NOTHING BRIGHT ABOUT IT/THIS TUNE AIN'T BAD OR GOOD AND COME WHATEVER MAY/MY EXPERTS TELL ME IT'S OKAY' ARE A COUPLE OF KEY LINES ABOUT THE LAWSUIT.)

THE PROMOTIONAL 45 DOES NOT LIST AN ALBUM FOR THIS TRACK,FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE REST OF THE ALBUM SOUNDS LIKE.
ENJOY THIS SOMEWHAT RARE FIND!

NOTES ABOUT THE NEW DIRECTION OF THIS BLOG

Hey all. I'm sure you were possibly wondering "Why did he close his 12 inchers blog down?". The answer is: It was time...I felt it had run it's [short but sweet] course in it's brief existance. So,after a while to think about it,I decided it's time to give it another run, only with the 7 inchers in my collection. I have some already waiting to go and some to do yet - well,at least ONE side to do ROFL - but I hope ths one will work a tad better.

1. The posts, like the 12 inchers, will only be available for a week....except for this post,as it's the manifesto FOR the blog.

2. Don't expect 320 kBps files or perfectionist sound: I,for one,do not hear any difference between 128,196,256 or 320 kBps for one,and then there's the source material - some of which I will readily admit are MP3 downloads, but ONLY because the side had a skip I couldn't fix or the AutoStop function on the turntable kicked in.

3. Expect the unexpected. With as much music as I have currently, you never know what I'm likely to post...whether it's a George Harrison promo or a rare Al Green shot. Just know if I'm posting it,it'll be a good tune or single.

4. Since some of what I have are Radio Station copies, if there are two different versions, expect to see a Mono and a Stereo version for some of the 7 inchers. (Having said that, however, there are some that are Stereo on both sides. Those will only have one song in the download.)

5. No,I'm not a former DJ! I buy in bulk from a locally based Record Store that sells 100 singles prepacked for around $11 with tax. (And believe me,there are some TRUE GEMS that I got this way!)

6. No rude comments and definitely NO POLITICAL DISCUSSIONS! (The "Holy Fuck! Where'd you get...." type comments ARE allowed, though.)

And that's basically all the rules for this edition of my blog! Now to post my first title........
